Backing Up and Parking

Many accidents occur when people are backing up.

The best thing you could possibly do is:

1. Drive through two parking spots so you’re facing out.

2. If this is not possible, drive past your intended spot while you check for obstacles and back in. If a van pulls in beside your vehicle you will have to back out ¾ of your vehicle before you can see what is coming.

3. At home, back into your driveway when pulling out you can merge easier with traffic. When backing out, you have to turn, stop, change gears, and accelerate from a stop. In winter, 25% of the wear and tear on your transmission is done when it’s changing from reverse to forward while it is still cold. 4. Clean all your windows and lights of snow. Squeegee the dew off your windows.
