Lane Position

How many drivers have you noticed crowding the centerline? They must be petrified of hitting the shoulder and falling off the edge of the world! Where is the greatest danger on the road? Coming at you head on. In the winter, you’ll help establish two separate track bare sections. This helps avoid having to pull right into the slush when oncoming traffic approaches.

Practice

Try this for one month.

As you’re driving; position your body behind the wheel, right in the middle of your lane. Your vehicle will end up just right of the center of your lane and you will still be a couple of feet from the shoulder.

This will take a lot of practice and time to change the normal habit of crowding the centerline. Again, your peripheral vision will help you properly position as you scan ahead for the unexpected. This allows others to see past you, if passing, and not having to swerve in and cut you off.
